Planning RW#3 (Was: When?)

Postby shawn42 » Sat Jun 20, 2009 11:15 pm

Update: See the formal rules thread: RubyWeekend #3 Rules!
- jacius

I propose we start the competition next weekend and run it for 3 days. Friday, June 26 - Sunday, June 28th.

*UPDATED TIME*
Start:
http://timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?year=2009&month=6&day=26&hour=0&min=1&p1=0
Finish:
http://timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?year=2009&month=6&day=28&hour=23&min=59&p1=0

Theme will be announced on this thread and in #rubygame at competition start.

*RULES UPDATE*
All games are to be licensed under an OSI approved licenses and all media are to be licensed under the Creative Common variants. There is no award in this contest, only "glory" and "honor".

All ruby libraries are allowed, whether it is Gosu, Rubygame, Rails, or something else. The only requirement is that the game must be written in the Ruby programming language.

Developers may work alone or in teams of two or three.

Most importantly, be creative and loose with your interpretation of the theme!

<shameless plug>
I'd love to see some people try out http://github.com/shawn42/gamebox/tree/master for their entries. I think it can help people get something up and running in a couple minutes. I think it could help us get some games going that wouldn't otherwise be possibly in the time given. :D </shameless plug>

Sounds okay to me. There is a small chance that I will have to deal with an end-of-month work rush, but I think I'd be able to find time even so.

P.S. I'm totally gonna use gamebox. ;)

Other Ideas stolen from pyweek (just to get the juices flowin):
    Pick a card, any card
    The Disappearing Act
The length of a piece of string
    Morning Fog and Frosts
    Dust Bunnies
    Punk
    Flat-packed

    Mashed
    Shuffle
    Jig
    The only way is up
    Underneath the radar
Don't stop till you get enough
    The final countdown
    One way or another

What else you guys got?

That's great news! Let me know if you want some help on gamebox. I'm going to try to get the next release out before Friday. BTW, it works with ruby 1.8 and ruby 1.9 :D
